Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

RCIA is the process of conversion for those seeking baptism in the Catholic Church or for those belonging to another church, but wishing to become members of the Catholic Church.  The program begins in September with weekly gatherings until Easter.  After meeting all requirements, candidates are usually accepted into the Church at the Easter Vigil.

Each year on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil Mass, thousands are baptized into the Catholic Church in the United States. Parishes welcome these new Catholics through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).The RCIA process is open to: 1) Those seeking baptism in the Catholic faith; 2) Those who were baptized in another Christian faith and who are interested in converting to Catholicism; 3) Adults already baptized as Catholics but never received the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation. The RCIA process helps them to complete their initiation into the Catholic Church. If you know someone who may be interested in learning about our faith or possibly converting, invite them to “inquire”. There is no obligation. RCIA sessions begin in September and continue through Easter. Sessions are held on Thursday nights in the Ministry Building.

RCIA Sponsors

A sponsor is a practicing Catholic and a regular, practicing member of St. Jude. The responsibility of a Sponsor is to help the person who is going to be received into the Church to lead a good Catholic life. The Sponsor is entrusted to be an example and lead a Christian life that reflects the spirit and teachings of our Catholic Religion. Sponsors attend the RCIA sessions with their candidate and serve as a supportive, spiritual friend, walking closely with and praying for the candidate on his/her faith journey.
